FOOD.O.FILE #1: Lucky Strike Lanes - Chinatown, DC

i'll post now what will hopefully be the first of many to come, a restaurant review lovingly titled: FOOD.o.FILE.

Lucky Strike Lanes - Chinatown, DC
701 Seventh Street NW
Washington, DC 20001
ph 202-347-1021

- the Ranch w/BBQ sauce Chicken Bites were divine. just the right amount of crunch and crispiness that was complemented with a smothering of ranch. the bbq sauce was there for dipping, but i discovered it to be unnecessary as the chicken and ranch were flavorful enough. some of the chicken pieces were dry, but for the most part, they were faaaaan-tastic.

- the french fries were nice and fleshy, landing in a spot somewhere between Wendy's and McDonald's. and don't underestimate the description! - when they say "basket of fries", they really do mean it.

- i would NOT recommend the crunchy mashed potato rolls, as our order failed to live up to its name. rolled up mashed potato, sure, but crunchy? if by "crunchy" they meant "not crunchy", then yes, they were quite crunchy. the wrapper was too soft and doughy to go well with the mash insides. i must say, like many of the dresses on project runway, the idea was good, but the problem was in the execution.

- the chopped classic cobb salad seemed to get good reviews. i've learned that a true cobb salad should have avocado, and lucky strike's sure hit the mark. the portion was also decent for the price.

- other offerings include thai pizza, tomato & cheese s'mores, potato pizza pie, plus all the other typical bar/alley fare: burgers, onion rings, buffalo wings, etc.

RATING: not a turkey, strike or gutterball, lucky strike's food was good, but not perfect, so it picks up the spare. B+

no seriously, make it stop

hollywood D has been seemingly anxious to post, and her lack of a computer at home probably doesn't help. so here i am again.

things i can't wait to be over:
1) this sweltering, humid summer
2)

oh wait, that's all. and i know we don't have it as bad as the west coast seems to be having it these days, but seriously, can i just say - what the!?

it was grace's birthday today (the 28th) and we went to lucky strike in chinatown. it's a bowling alley with a dress code - that may be all you need to know. more lounge/bar than bowling alley, it was pretty fun; modern and artsy in a very calculated way. one cool thing was that their computer system actually tells you how fast your ball comes down the lane...in MPH! i'll have you know i can throw a 9-pound ball about 12 mph down a lane. this other guy had one go over 22 mph! holy!

revelation of the day: "strike" in baseball means you don't hit anything, but "strike" in bowling means you hit everything! (all together now: wowwww!)

pun of the day: when looking for the new issue of people magazine w/lance bass on the cover, but seeing that the issue at CVS was still the one with sandra bullock on it, D asked, "where's lance?" then, to answer her own question, she said, "...hrmm, guess he's not out yet."

closing of the day: it's off to bed. amazing how bowling a mind-blowing 83 can really tire you out!

you WISH you could see my new turkey dance!

...well, it's not churro science!

so i've been given the honor of doing the first post. and let me tell you, it's totally like woah.

discussions of the day:
1) capri pants and bowling shoes - deal or no deal?
2) colin farrel = retrosexual?
3) what texas city would you host the olympics at?

speaking of cities, i recently had an idea to name all of my future children after cities i've lived in. austin is a nice name; raleigh's pretty cool. tianjin sounds nice and foreign (who doesn't love a good identity crisis? lord knows i do!), but then - and this is my personal fave - how about baltimore!? D says i can call him "tim" for short! :)

all i gotta say is my future husband betta recognize!

ps - misunderstanding of the day, which adds to my deep-seated fear that i fail to enunciate -
A: he was a materials science engineer.
D: ...churro science??!
A: nooooooo!
