while oates is away, hall will play

do you think that's true in real life, too? hahaha!

i am EXTREMELY tired, but stupidly updating this blog. oates has abandoned me for the motherland. there'll just be one P in Aplaud for a few weeks. sad! and it's so noticeable bc we update this thing so often. :(

do you know how cashews grow? i bet you don't. it may behoove you to go search your neighborhood google images page for the "cashew fruit". yes. cashew fruit. i said it. don't believe me? here, i made it even easier for you: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=cashew+fruit&btnG=Search+Images.

altogether now: WOAHHHH!

glossing over much, if not all, of the cashew conversation my family and i had over christmas lunch at DUANGRATS (quite possibly one of the best thai restaurants in the DC area), here are the most important lessons i learned that day:

* cashew trees bear fruit. filipinos eat this fruit. you use the cashew as a handle when you hold it while you eat it.

* and this is straight from the province - chicken farms and all - the smoke from the roasting of cashew nuts makes chickens sick. they get all droopy, their beaks run, and they require medication in their water to get better. =/ it may be the funniest and saddest thing you've ever learned in your life.

* a filipino riddle:
A: what do you call a princess sitting on a cup?
B: a cashew!

* HAHAHAHAHA!

anyway!

2006 has almost come and gone. what a crazy fast year. come 2007, oates and i will once again be joining the discovery channel's "national body challenge" program in an effort get (and stay) in shape. i can only hope the final results reflect our current determination. we'll see.

i wish you well - lots of laughs and good times - for the new year. it got cliche somewhere down the line, but i am slowly re-realizing, if there is such a thing, that we only live once and that we ought to just do the things we want to do. well, to a point. hedonism doesn't really get you too far. anyway, anyway, anyway... new year, new me. you've heard it before, but i think i'm serious this time. 2007 is not ready!

my very best to you!

yea or nay?

the britney-whitney comeback tour. having kinda lost the excess baggage of their now ex-husbands, it is my humble opinion that these two should take the world by storm with new records and a new tour. 2007 could be their year! oh, and the best part? their opening act... paula abdul! because, you know, she's forever your girl.

tell me you wouldn't buy a ticket!

happy thanksgiving.

oates won't post, so i will. while the whole concept of "Thanksgiving" seems to be contested, i say, let's just make it about being thankful. (duh.) while, like valentine's day, we as a people shouldn't have to wait for a certain day a year to be grateful for and/or feel blessed by everything around us, it's a good reminder for us young, yet cynical folk to keep our heads up and to appreciate what we have instead of what we don't have. that may have been a convoluted run-on, but please bear with me. well. in any case, it all boils down to the sheer awe i feel when i think of those around me - their capacity to support, entertain, be knowledgable, empathize, love. how lucky i am to surround myself with wonderful people. blah blah blah...thank YOU.

my way too awesome pun of the day:
K: i'm a liability!
A: no...you have lie ability!

as someone put it, to oates: "i hope your thanksgiving is as stuffing as mine."

celebrate your families and your friends. if i can do it, you can too.
